Crowdfunding - can it help drive the UK recovery?
It is widely acknowledged that a resurgence in economic growth needs to be driven from a multitude of angles. It’s also a given that in order to grow, business finance is often a key factor – for new and existing business.
Entrepreneurs are increasingly turning to new and innovative funding solutions. Equity crowdfunding is gaining momentum. The potential impact that harnessing the ‘power of the crowd’ could have on the way in which businesses (in particular start-ups) raise capital is without equal.
It is often said that where the US leads, so shall the UK (and others) follow.
Well not in this case! When it comes to equity crowdfunding the UK is leading the way!
Legislation in the UK has enabled equity crowdfunding to gain traction. Whereas legislation in the US - the JOBS Act, has taken time to shape and implement, which has stalled the launch of US based platforms. All of this is about to change when the US legislation is finally completed. Can the UK equity crowdfunding platforms still lead the way? Time will tell.
