Stages of funding for growth businesses

What stage of funding does your business need?

Trying to make your way through all of the jargon associated with running your own business is tough. When you decide to raise capital, how do you know what stage to go for? Have you built a prototype or is your "business" still only an idea?

Maybe you're ready to franchise - do I need "franchise capital"? Hang on a moment, there are already enough different terms being thrown around without making more up!

But don't worry, it's not that complicated...

It just depends what stage your business is at on its journey, and once you know that, you should have a better idea of what stage of funding you'll be raising. In this blog series, we'll look at the different growth stages along with their associated funding stages (and all their names).

The aim is to keep things as simple as possible, with the aim of eliminating all excessive "jargon", although I'll make my apologies now. If things start getting too confusing, let me know by leaving a comment at the bottom of the page and I'll de-jargon!

The series will look at:

1. Pre-seed

2. Seed

3. Start up / Series A

4. Growth / Series B

5. Expansion

6. Mezzanine financing

7. IPO
